Phyna Demands Justice After Sister’s Leg Amputated in Dangote Truck Accident

The Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Josephina “Phyna” Otabor, has made a passionate public appeal for justice after her younger sister, Ruth Otabor, suffered life-changing injuries in a devastating road accident involving a truck allegedly owned by the Dangote Group.

A Tragic Turn of Events

The incident occurred near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, just six days after Ruth’s graduation. Witnesses reported that the Dangote-branded truck struck Ruth, causing catastrophic injuries. She lost one leg, amputated at the pelvic region, while doctors say her remaining leg is also at serious risk. She also sustained multiple injuries to her hand and head.

Phyna’s Anguish and Allegations

Visibly shaken, Phyna took to Instagram to accuse the Dangote Group of attempting to cover up the incident rather than prioritizing her sister’s care. She alleged that the truck’s license plate was deliberately removed under police instructions and claimed the driver was being shielded from prosecution.

Her words were raw with emotion:

“Na money you get, you no be God. But my God is bigger. Enough is enough.”

Public Outcry and Celebrity Support

The case has sparked a wave of support from prominent voices. Veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw condemned the alleged handling of the matter, revealing that despite the truck being in police custody, Ruth’s family and fellow students from Auchi Polytechnic were denied access to vital evidence.

Social media activist VeryDarkMan also amplified the call for justice, releasing disturbing videos showing Ruth’s condition and accusing authorities of protecting corporate interests over human life.

Dangote Group Responds

Amid mounting public pressure, Dangote Cement Plc issued a formal statement acknowledging the accident and confirming that its driver was at fault. The company said it had dispatched senior officials and an insurance team to visit the accident site, liaise with law enforcement, and check on Ruth at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.

According to the statement, Dangote Cement has committed to covering Ruth’s full medical treatment and compensation as part of its welfare policy.

Questions of Accountability

While Dangote’s admission and promises of support have been noted, the controversy over the alleged tampering of evidence and initial handling of the case remains unresolved. Advocates are calling for a transparent investigation to ensure that Ruth and her family receive not only medical care but also justice under the law.

The Road Ahead

For Ruth Otabor, the road to recovery will be long and uncertain. For her sister Phyna, this is more than a fight for one victim—it has become a rallying cry for accountability, road safety, and the fair treatment of accident victims regardless of the power or wealth of those involved.
