🕵️‍♂️ SPOTLIGHT: Who Is "Gentle De Yahoo"?

Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta, alias "Gentle De Yahoo", is a high-ranking figure within the IPOB and ESN, separatist groups advocating for the secession of the southeastern region of Nigeria. For years, he has been implicated in various criminal activities, including kidnappings, extortion, and attacks on security personnel, particularly in the Okigwe area of Imo State.

📍 Capture in Imo State

On September 17, 2025, Nigerian Army troops apprehended Okorienta during a coordinated intelligence-driven operation at his hideout in Aku-Ihube, Okigwe Local Government Area, Imo State. This operation was executed by the 34 Artillery Brigade, in collaboration with other security agencies.

🔫 Items Recovered

During the raid, security forces seized:

  • One English-made pistol

  • 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition

  • 25 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition

  • One cartridge

  • Six mobile phones

  • Military and police uniforms

  • A German flag, reportedly used as a symbol by the terror group

  • A workshop used to dismantle stolen vehicles for resale

  • Ten motorcycles, which were destroyed to prevent further use in criminal operations

🗣️ Denial of IPOB Affiliation

Following his arrest, Okorienta publicly denied being a member of IPOB or ESN. He stated, "We are not kidnappers. We are not criminals. We are not terrorists. Our only 'crime' is saying NO to slavery, no to colonial injustice, no to the perpetual bondage of our people" championnews.com.ng.

🧭 Significance of the Arrest

The capture of Okorienta is considered a significant achievement in the fight against separatist violence and criminal activities in the southeastern region. It is expected to disrupt the operational capabilities of IPOB and ESN in the area, providing a sense of relief to residents who have endured months of attacks, kidnappings, and extortion allegedly orchestrated by Okorienta and his group.
